Our People

Cowguys began with a deep love for ranching and a commitment to quality that has only grown stronger over time. Our rancher, Joseph, (Cosgray farms) started raising his own cattle as a teenager on a small ranch in Texas. After almost a decade, he discovered that the natural, pure beef tallow from his cattle had unexpected benefits beyond the kitchen. Friends who tried his tallow balm began raving about its skin-nourishing properties, especially those with autoimmune skin disorders, and they loved the natural scent. This inspired him to create a line of skincare products that are as high-quality as his beef, made from the same cattle.

Our team is made up of passionate college students from College Station, Texas, who met through Texas A&M’s St. Mary’s. Brought together by our shared values and love for the ranch life, we believe in hard work, faith, and enjoying the simple things in life—like spending evenings by the fire with cattle and holding Bible studies under the Texas stars. It’s this sense of community, care, and tradition that we pour into every product we offer.

Our Ranch

We take great pride in not just managing, but owning and raising our own grass-fed, grass-finished cattle.

Direct Ownership: Our commitment to owning our own cattle, allows us to control every step of their upbringing, from grazing to maturity. This hands-on approach guarantees that all our animals are raised in accordance with strict standards, ensuring the purest ingredients.

Sourcing Locally to Support Farmers: When our supply runs low, we source cattle from nearby farms that adhere to our standard. This allows us to support other local farmers who share our values and commitment to quality. Because we have our own cattle we know how to ensure that their processes align with our own caliber of quality. This collaboration strengthens our local agricultural community and also guarantees that we can maintain a commitment to excellence.

Stress-Free Environment: Our direct involvement in every stage of the process—from pasture to product—allows us unparalleled quality control. We oversee systems of diet, health, and living conditions of our cattle, ensuring that every product meets our exacting standards. Stress can greatly affect quality, and our hands-on approach ensures that each animal is treated with care and respect, minimizing stress and promoting a peaceful life. Science

Beef tallow is primarily composed of triglycerides, which are fats that our skin can readily absorb. This makes it highly effective as a moisturizer. It closely mimics human sebum, the natural oils produced by our skin, due to its similar fatty acid profile. This includes stearic acid, palmitic acid, oleic acid, and linoleic acid, which are beneficial for maintaining skin health.

Tallow is also rich in fat-soluble vitamins such as;

Vitamin A: Promotes cell regeneration and is vital for healthy skin repair and maintenance.
Vitamin D: Plays a critical role in skin tone and health, helping to prevent skin aging.
Vitamin E: Known for its antioxidant properties, it helps to fight off the damaging effects of free radicals on the skin.
Vitamin K: Important for skin healing and may help with skin conditions like stretch marks, spider veins, scars, and dark spots.

Skin Barrier Support: Tallow contains a high concentration of stearic acid, which helps to repair damaged skin and restore the skin's barrier. This is crucial for locking in moisture and protecting the skin from environmental pollutants and toxins.

Anti-inflammatory Properties: The conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) found in tallow has natural anti-inflammatory properties. This can be particularly beneficial for conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and general skin irritation, reducing redness and swelling.

Hydration and Elasticity: Its natural moisturizing qualities, coupled with its ability to be absorbed deep into the skin, make tallow a powerful hydrator that can improve skin elasticity. Sustainability and Purity: Using tallow in skincare promotes a zero-waste philosophy, moreover, when sourced from grass-fed organically raised cattle, tallow is free from chemicals, preservatives, and other synthetic or irritants commonly found in commercial skincare products.

No Harmful Additives

Many conventional skincare products still use harsh chemicals. Our skincare products are free from harmful substances like parabens, which can disrupt hormone function; phthalates, known to interfere with the endocrine system; and sulfates, which can strip away natural oils and irritate the skin. We also avoid synthetic fragrances that often contain undisclosed chemicals causing allergies and sensitivities, as well as PEGs, which can carry carcinogenic impurities. You won't find formaldehyde-releasing agents or artificial dyes in our products either—both of which can lead to skin irritation and allergic reactions.
