Our People

Joseph Cosgray began raising cattle as a teenager on a small ranch in Texas through Cosgray Farms, where he developed the standards and sourcing knowledge that still shape Cow Guys today. Although Cosgray Farms is no longer operating, those trusted rancher relationships and that commitment to quality remain at the core of what we do.

Joseph later partnered with Pablo Cortez, an entrepreneur and storyteller who helped bring the brand to life. Together, they built Cow Guys around a simple idea: create skincare products made with high-quality tallow and straightforward ingredients people can feel good about using.

Our team is made up of close friends connected through Texas A&M’s St. Mary’s and a shared love for ranch life, faith, and tradition. We believe in hard work, strong values, and the kind of simple living that brings people together. That spirit of community, care, and authenticity is something we try to carry into every product we make.

God's Natural Design

Rooted in the heart of Texas, our story begins with a deep respect for God’s natural design. Across open pasture and under wide southern skies, cattle live as they were meant to live—grazing, roaming, and thriving in rhythm with the land. We believe there is something deeply good and worth preserving in that order: animals raised in a way that honors creation, and products made with simplicity, care, and purpose.

That vision is carried forward by Joseph Cosgray, whose years of ranching experience shaped the foundation of what we do, and Pablo Cortez, whose work in entrepreneurship, education, and storytelling helps bring that mission to life. Together, we are committed to creating products that reflect a respect for nature, tradition, and the wisdom built into creation itself.

Our Ranching Start

Cow Guys began with Joseph’s years in ranching, where he learned firsthand what it means to raise cattle with care and attention. That experience shaped the foundation of this company and still influences the way we think about quality, sourcing, and the kind of ingredients worth using.

Direct Experience: Spending years raising grass-fed, grass-finished cattle gave Joseph a close understanding of the process from pasture to maturity. That hands-on background created the standards that continue to guide our brand today.

Sourcing from Trusted Rancher Friends: While we no longer raise our own cattle, we now source from trusted rancher friends Joseph came to know through his years in the ranching world. These relationships matter to us. They allow us to work with people we trust and stay connected to the values that shaped this company from the beginning.

The Science

Tallow is the closest natural match to human sebum, containing saturated and monounsaturated fats that strengthen the skin barrier and lock in moisture. Composed primarily of triglycerides, tallow is easily absorbed by the skin, making it a powerful natural moisturizer. Its fatty acid profile similarly matches human sebum, including stearic acid, palmitic acid, oleic acid, and linoleic acid, all of which support skin health.

Rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, tallow provides deep nourishment and promotes cellular renewal. Vitamin A supports skin repair and regeneration, Vitamin D helps maintain skin tone and prevent aging, Vitamin E provides antioxidant protection against free radical damage, and Vitamin K may improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, scars, and dark spots.

Tallow enhances the skin’s barrier function by replenishing lipids essential for structural integrity and transepidermal water retention. Its bioavailable composition allows for efficient dermal absorption without occluding pores, making it suitable for sensitive and reactive skin types. By stabilizing the skin’s lipid matrix, tallow helps mitigate the effects of environmental aggressors, reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and supports improved elasticity and dermal texture over time.

Many store-bought, alcohol-based skincare products strip away natural oils, forcing your skin to overcompensate by producing excess oil or becoming overly dry, making it habitually dependent on constant reapplication. Our Secret

Our tallow balm is one of the most nutrient-dense on the market because we don’t whip it with excess air. We use only beef suet, a rare, nutrient-rich fat packed with skin benefits. If you’ve ever tried eating liver, you know how strong nutrient-dense fats can smell—that’s why we take the time to naturally remove any odor while keeping all the nutrients intact. Using a slow, all-natural rendering process, we refine our suet in double boilers at precise temperatures, ensuring purity without harsh processing.
